Morehead Middle School is an IB Middle Years Programme Candidate School
What is the IB MYP?
All students at Morehead MS will participate in the International Baccalaureate® (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP). The MYP is a 3-5 year program which provides a challenging framework for students aged 11-16. It provides a holistic learning environment, which allows students to make practical connections between their studies and the real world.
Morehead offers the program in a three year format. Sixth grade is known as Year 1, seventh grade as Year 2, and eighth grade as Year 3 of the MYP. We are very proud of the IB MYP, and we encourage our students to continue their IB education at our feeder school, Coronado High School, which offers the IB Diploma Programme. Studies have shown that students who are enrolled in the IB have a better chance of going and staying in college.

The MYP Curriculum
The MYP curriculum framework comprises eight subject groups, providing a broad and balanced education for early adolescents. This framework is written specifically to enhance the current EPISD curriculum and Texas State educational standards (TEKS).
The eight subjects that all MYP students must enroll in are:
Individuals & Societies
Language & Literature
Physical & Health Education
Visual & Performing Arts

The IB Learner Profile

Each of the IB's programs is committed to the development of students according to the IB learner profile.
The profile aims to develop learners who are:

The Community Project
Beginning in the 2017-18 school year, all Year 3 students will be required to participate in the Community Project. This is a requirement of the IB MYP.
Students may work in groups of up to three or individually. All students will be assigned an IB teacher mentor to assist them with their timelines. Projects will be presented at the Community Project Showcase event in April, 2018 (tentative). We are very excited to see what our 8th graders will come up with!
