Dear Students and Families,
Welcome to 6th grade English and Reading! We are excited about the opportunity to get to know you; and we are looking forward to a happy and productive school year. English and Reading in 6th grade is designed to strengthen students’ skills in reading, listening, speaking, writing, literature and language. They will then be tested over this information in April on the STARR test. It is important that students complete all their assignments and keep an organized interactive notebook in order to do well in class. The test does require mastery in Reading, so students will review all material covered in class throughout the school year.
Studies show that parental involvement in a child’s education is one of the strongest indicators of student achievement. We hope you will make it a priority this year to attend as many school-sponsored events as possible. You will find our class rules and expectations on the following pages. We believe in maintaining an orderly environment that is conducive to learning and high achievement. Students are responsible for their behavior and academic progress in class and will be given every opportunity to achieve success. Progress reports will be sent home every three weeks and you are always welcome to set up a conference to discuss grades or other concerns.
Please review this information with your student, then sign and return the signature slip given to your student this week by Friday, August 28, 2015. If you have any questions or concerns, you can contact us through the school office at 231-2140 or through e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com.
Once again, welcome to 6th grade English and Reading. Let’s work together to make this the best year ever!
Mr. Martin Sanchez
